Tour: Don't Breathe a Word Art/Cover Contest!

Hello, all of you fans of Confessions of a Bookaholic and YA books! Thanks for dropping by to enter the DON’T BREATHE A WORD Art/Cover Contest (part of the Teen Book Scene tour). Jessica and I thought it would be fun to run a contest for art and designs inspired by the book—with a signed copy as the prize!

DON’T BREATHE A WORD is the story of Joy, a sixteen year-old girl who must flee to the streets of Seattle as an abusive boyfriend gains power first over her, and then over her family. A band of homeless teens takes her in and teaches her how to survive…and how to love. Will that be enough to escape her past?

Don’t miss the sneak preview today at Books Complete Me, and follow the tour for lots more chances to win books and swag!

Some visual ideas in the book? Streets, darkness, light (I love the bokeh lights in the final official cover!). Asher, the abusive boyfriend, is obsessed with crows, and Joy feels like she is trapped like one. He gives her a Tiffany I.D. bracelet with a crow dangling from the edge. At the beginning of the novel, Joy cuts off her long, dark hair and bleaches it to disguise herself on the streets. There is a romance, too, with Creed—a talented musician who is on the streets for reasons of his own.

I hope that gives you some ideas, and you can always contact me with questions at my blog, www.HollyCupala.com. With your permission upon entry, we will post your gorgeous work in a gallery on the www.dontbreatheaword.com site.

Vote for your favorites, and may the best art win!

Don't Breathe a Word by Holly Cupala
Publisher: HarperTeen (January 3rd, 2012)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Paperback: 299 pages
Joy Delamere is suffocating...

From asthma, which has nearly claimed her life. From her parents, who will do anything to keep that from happening. From delectably dangerous Asher, who is smothering her from the inside out.

Joy can take his words - tender words, cruel words - until the night they go too far.

Now, Joy will leave everything behind to find the one who has offered his help, a homeless boy called Creed. She will become someone else. She will learn to survive. She will breathe... if only she can get to Creed before it’s too late.

Set against the gritty backdrop of Seattle’s streets and a cast of characters with secrets of their own, Holly Cupala’s powerful new novel explores the subtleties of abuse, the meaning of love, and how far a girl will go to discover her own strength.

  8. What a great idea! You know, I might even join if I have the time.

Just a quick question: do we have to use the same font as in the original cover? If yes, what's the name of the font/where can we find it?

    Thanks again for the opportunity.

  9. Jessica, thanks so much for being part of the tour and for hosting this contest!! I hope you all enjoy entering!

Nope, you can use whatever font you want, but if you are into fonts (I am...that's the first thing I did when I saw the final cover was track it down!), it's called DOWNCOME, and I think you can download it for free here: http://www.dafont.com/downcome.font

  10. First off, thank you for this opportunity! Gave me a chance to brush up on my graphics skills a bit.

Just noticed Holly posted the name and link to the font used. Wish I would have seen that before I went looking. LOL Of course, DaFont is my go to font site and it didn't take me long to locate it. :)
