Kiddie Korner: Say Hello to Zorro!

Say Hello to Zorro! by Carter Goodrich
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Date: March 22nd, 2011
Hardcover: 48 pages
Ages: 4-8
Mister Bud is a dog of routine. He has wake up time, nap time, rest time, dinner time, etc. And everyone knows to follow his schedule.
Then disaster strikes. A stranger comes home at "make a fuss time" and throws everything off! Zorro is little bit bossy and Mister Bud wants nothing to do with him. But when the dogs discover they like the same things (like chasing the cat and napping), everything becomes more fun. As long as everyone follows the schedule.

My Thoughts:

This is a really cute book. It's about a dog, Mister Bud, who has his own strict schedule until it was interrupted by the new dog in the house, Zorro. The book shows how they first didn't get along but eventually realized they do many of the same things. They start enjoying those activities together and end up as friends. I think this book would be great for children getting a new sibling. The dogs reminded me of how children can be picky about their schedule and activities and having a new child in the house can mess that up.

The illustrations are simple and adorable. Even the inside covers have illustrations of the puppies. Plus, this book shows children that sometimes animals, and people, are not happy. They may be angry or stubborn when they are forced into change. But, they can learn acceptance if they try to get along.

  3. Just added you, I love your blog! :)

This book looks super cute and pugs are my favorite dog ever (I'm kinda obsessed with them :) so when I saw the cover with the grumpy looking pug, I had to see what this book was about-- sounds like a great children's book- I'm a librarian but I don't know a lot about children's books, so it's always a nice surprise when I find something that catches my attention!
