Alexis Ames has a life full of promise…but not all promises can be kept.

When Alexis Ames is attacked by creatures that can’t be real, she decides it’s time she learns who she really is, with or without the help of her mother, who guards their family’s secrets closely. After meeting the inhumanly attractive, multi-talented Tristan Knight, however, Alexis retreats behind her façade of normalcy…until she discovers he’s not exactly normal either. Then their secrets begin to unravel.

Their union brings hope and promise to her family’s secret society, the Angels’ army, and to the future of mankind. But it also incites a dangerous pursuit by the enemy – Satan’s minions and Tristan’s creators. After all, Alexis and Tristan are a match made in Heaven and in Hell.
Review: This book shocked me. I really didn't know what to expect, but I truly didn't expect to be up all night reading it and to be completely blown away by the writing, story line, and characters. This book begins 9 years ago (from where book 2, Purpose, will pick up) and is from the point of view of Alexis. Alexis knows she is different but she realizes that even more once she is attacked by creatures that shouldn't even exist. Her mother tries to keep the truth from her and they move often to get away from possible dangers.

Then Alexis meets Tristan, who is gorgeous, mysterious, and seems to be very interested in Alexis. Alexis's mom instantly wants her to stay away from Tristan, and the fact that they seem to already know each other is obvious. An accident leads Alexis to find out the truth about herself, Tristan, and the creatures that are after her.

The writing in this book is outstanding! The way Kristie describes emotions, settings, and actions is so unique. It starts out with the best first few lines I think I have ever read in a book. I posted them on the excerpts post but I will post them again.

The sensation of being watched clung to me like a spider web, invisible threads bristling the back of my neck and down my spine. I brushed my fingers across my shoulders, as if I could drag the feeling off and flick it away.
How can you NOT want to read more after reading that? Alexis and Tristan are so passionate about each other and even though they have their issues to work out, their love shines through each page. They felt so real! The story takes a lot of twists and turns and will leave you guessing the entire time. What exactly is Tristan, where does their connection come from, and will it all work out?

The love between Tristan and Alexis will leave you breathless! Their relationship is strong and even though they seem to be "good versus evil", everything fits together perfectly. This book takes us into their world, and the world Alexis never knew existed. Some questions are answered while some are left for the next book. The "Angel's army" must be saved and it is all in their hands.

Characters: Alexis is one of my favorite female characters. She is someone I'd love to know! She is smart, interesting, and although she is head over heals in love with Tristan, it doesn't completely take over her life. That can be common in a love story. But Alexis has her own interests and she doesn't forget to be herself. Tristan is..well...hot! He treats Alexis like she is the only girl in the world. Sophia, Alexis's mother, is strong and cares deeply for her daughter. She does everything she can to make sure she is protected. Owen, was a great character as well. He works for Sophia and I really liked him throughout the book. I hope to read a lot more about him in Purpose

Cover: I like this cover a lot. It was the first thing I noticed about the book. I, like many others, did think this book was YA at first. Maybe it was the cover? But I love flowers and the simple design (and purple, obviously) so it works :)

Recommend: I strongly recommend this book! If you don't normally read books that are self-published or published by a small company, give this book a chance. It really blew me away and I can't wait for the release of Purpose! Please be warned..this is NOT a YA book. It's not full of curse words and actually I found that it didn't have many at all compared to some YA titles, however, it does have some sexual scenes. This makes it more appropriate for age 17 and up.

If you want a book full of intriguing characters, romance, suspense, and mystery; with a little sexiness thrown in, this is the perfect book for you! Kristie has set the plot for an alluring adventure that you can't help but want to explore.

  2. Okay, this is the third review I've read on this book and I think I have to buy it now. I love reading books by self published authors or small publishing company.

Another great series I discovered is Almost Human by Melanie Nowak. You should check it out! She is self published.

Great review and now I am going to buy this book. :-)
