Alexis Ames has a life full of promise…but not all promises can be kept.
When Alexis Ames is attacked by creatures that can’t be real, she decides it’s time she learns who she really is, with or without the help of her mother, who guards their family’s secrets closely. After meeting the inhumanly attractive, multi-talented Tristan Knight, however, Alexis retreats behind her façade of normalcy…until she discovers he’s not exactly normal either. Then their secrets begin to unravel.
Their union brings hope and promise to her family’s secret society, the Angels’ army, and to the future of mankind. But it also incites a dangerous pursuit by the enemy – Satan’s minions and Tristan’s creators. After all, Alexis and Tristan are a match made in Heaven and in Hell.
Kristie was kind enough to allow me to pick some of my *fav* excerpts from the first two chapters of Promise to put on blog. You can read the first two chapters here- Promise
First Lines
The sensation of being watched clung to me like a spider web, invisible threads bristling the back of my neck and down my spine. I brushed my fingers across my shoulders, as if I could drag the feeling off and flick it away.
When I Knew I Was Hooked (Chapter 2)
“Alexis, right?” a silky, sexy voice asked behind me, making me jump and slosh soda over my hand. I turned to see Mr. Beautiful. Of course he would sound lovely. I already knew he smelled good, too. Yep. He strode over to me and I could really take in the scents. Sweet mangos and papayas, citrusy lime, sage…and, of course, that hint of man. I could tell it was natural—it didn’t have the chemical undertone like cologne or soaps did. It was a fresh fragrance, making me think of sitting in the sun on a warm day.
“Uh, yeah.” The lamp over us cast its light directly on his spellbinding face. He took my breath away and made my mind foggy.
It wasn’t right for a guy to be so incredibly attractive. Besides how tall he stood—towering at least a foot over my five-two—I noticed his hazel eyes first. They pulled me into their staggering beauty, with a wide ring of emerald green on the outside of the irises and brown around the pupils with gold specks that seemed to…sparkle. They were fringed with such long, dark lashes that it was unfair they were on a guy. His facial features were flawless—a square jaw, full lips and a golden suntan—better than any movie star or model. Sandy brown hair, longer on top and streaked by the sun, topped off his perfection. And then he smiled magnificently and the gold flecks in his eyes sparkled brighter, like when the sun hits gold flakes in a mining pan. My brain slid out the exit door and my insides melted. Get a grip!
I tried to remember his name. He had to have introduced himself to the team. I must have been really focused on that mind nudge, because I drew a blank.
“I’m Tristan…in case you didn’t catch it.”
Ahhh...great, right? Yeah, couldn't put the book down! I will go into more detail of that tomorrow when I post the actual review. For now I wanted to add the 10 Little Known Facts about the fabulous author of Promise, Kristie Cook!
1. I don’t like sitting with my back to the door, whether when working, watching TV or eating out.
2.I love to cook (but haven’t been able to much lately and I miss it).
3. I’m afraid of birds. I don’t like their beady eyes and freaky claws. They don’t like me either. They dive-bomb almost every car I’ve had. They haven’t hit my convertible yet, but I just know one will when the top’s down and it will land right in my lap. Probably while on the interstate.
4. I have a convertible (in case you didn’t just figure that out). For nearly 2 decades I drove mom-mobiles and now finally have a car I love. And it’s a 2-seater, so no more mom-taxi duties. Of course, two of my kids drive now, so I’m not needed.
5. I had a convertible once before, when I was in college. I thought I was cool buying a 20-year-old MG Midget. It was broken down most of the time. The car I had in high school lost its reverse gear so I had to be sure I parked where I wouldn’t have to back up. Not so easy. But it also had an intercom system (like a cop car), so my friends and I would duck down in the seats and talk to people in the parking lot. The victims would turn around, looking for the source. We still crack up when we reminisce about it.
6. I was a closet Sweet Valley High reader when I was probably too old and intelligent to be reading them anymore. I haven’t outgrown that—a good portion of my TBR list consists of YA books. But it’s what all the cool kids…er, moms…are doing now. So it’s all good.
7. I collect elephants. I used to collect pigs, but got tired of them because most look cheesy. Everyone still buys me pigs.
8. I also collect Christmas-themed snow-globes. I’ve been trying to get one every year, but I’m picky, so not always. The only nativity scene we have is a snow-globe, but it’s gorgeous.
9. For about 10 years, I was a major soccer mom and served as the soccer club’s president for a few years. Now I’m a football mom.
10. I have scoliosis. If my back were straight, I’d be a couple inches taller. But, alas, I’m height challenged. At least, that’s what my hubs and >6’ tall kids say. Personally, I kind of like being small.
